Storage Depot West opened for business in 1986. We are conveniently located just off of Route 83 and Route 581.
Bring the kids and come investigate our Caboose. It is an N5N caboose built circa 1916. Our research indicates it was originally in service for the Pa Central Railroad, then with Conrail and finally was retired from Pennsylvania Railroad. It is one of the first all steel constructed cars to ride the rails. The train was run from the caboose. The engineer ran the engine but the conductor gave the orders from the caboose. The conductor and the brake men lived in the caboose. It has 4 bunks, a stove for heat and cooking and a toilet. If the conductor were to change duty to another train, his caboose would go with him. During the era this caboose was in service, trains could only be as long as visual site would allow since hand signals were used to give orders from the caboose to the engine.
